The Scottish Executive is committed to
promoting ‘Financial Inclusion’ – what does that mean?
Most of us use credit cards and direct debits as
convenient ways of paying for goods and services. Yet there are
still people who are excluded from using these services. 11% of
Scots do
not have a bank account. They may be unable
to borrow at a fair rate, save for necessities and make
provision for their future.
The Council supports people on low incomes
through Welfare Rights and Debt Advice; and through voluntary
agencies like the Citizens Advice Service and the 1st Alliance
Credit Union. Now with £600,000 extra funding from the Scottish
Executive there are new services available for financially
excluded individuals throughout North Ayrshire. |
